The Hello Kitty Brand Just Gets Better and Better

Friday, February 3rd, 2012

More than twenty years ago, I remember going to my local shopping center and purchasing all manner of things Hello Kitty. Back then, Hello Kitty was something new for young girls and even older girls. Today, Hello Kitty is still around and my twins like Hello Kitty too. That is cool! How I liked Hello Kitty fifty years ago!

Wow, that is a long time to share the love of Hello Kitty with a lot of kids and now my twins love her too. This lovable toy (character) seems to find its way through each generation. I remember when Hello Kitty was brought into the marketplace, at least when I first saw her in stores and malls.

I remember my mall had a Hello Kitty store, full of all this Hello Kitty merchandise. I must have been nine or ten when I purchased my first Hello Kitty doll.

I was purchasing this gorgeous kitty cat and so were my friends. All my friends, from the district and school, had this little kitty and I remember taking mine to school and showing off my latest ?pet? toy.

You may think the Hello Kitty toy (character) was created in Japan, but that is incorrect. As it turns out, Hello Kitty and her family, was created in Europe in 1974. Now, the company that makes this endearing character is Sanrio, a Japanese firm, but she was created in Europe.

Did you realise that Hello Kitty has a twin sister? Yes, her twin sister?s name is Mimi and her parents are George and Mary. It is as if these characters are real, in a sense. As I stated above, now my twins, who are not indistinguishable, like Hello Kitty and are best friends just like Mimi and Hello Kitty are.

The Hello Kitty brand has expanded in a big way. When this product was first produced, all that was available to little girls were some toys and note books. Now, almost everywhere you go, mall, strip mall, mass retailers and online, you will find garments such as tank tops, shirts, jumpers, socks, boots, flip flops, umbrellas, watches, rings, necklaces, backpacks, luncheon boxes, clocks and so much more.

Anything you want can be found in their stores and online. There seem to be more goods online than in stores, but it appears more and more Hello Kitty products are being produced and added everyday.

Some more things you child might like are a selection of video games – there are quite a few video games to play these days. Along with video games, there are movies, books, stickers and tattoos. The theme of Hello Kitty goes on and on. It does not matter where your child is, they can get and or use Hello Kitty.

If your youngster is having a party, you can purchase party plates, cups, decorations and face painting kits. If you or your child has a mobile phone, you can now use a cell phone cover or case for your iPhone4.

Little girls, or older girls, can buy Hello Kitty bedding as well. For adult women, if you use a credit card, a Hello Kitty Credit Card is now obtainable too. Hello Kitty has been and continues to remain a very well-liked brand for kids and adults alike.

Auto Stereo Systems

Sunday, May 1st, 2011

It is a simple expression – car stereo – but on the whole people pay more consideration to the car stereo device than they do to their home stereo. Many people are quite happy with a run of the mill home stereo and will never mention it in conversation, but the car stereo! Well, that is a another kettle of fish. Drivers want speakers in each door, sub-woofers front and back and a graphic equalizer.

The majority of modern cars come with some form of car stereo already fitted, but these can be quite basic systems.

In the first days of auto audio systems, car stereos were not much more than smaller versions of indoor, home stereo set-ups. However, the environment was totally different and musical purists could tell that they were getting a bad deal. The speakers were too close together and the shuddering from the car?s engine rattled everything apart. Speakers were puny and frequently blew.

Enthusiasts started to demand better quality car stereo systems . The concept of a dedicated car stereo, if not yet the product itself was born.

Some vehicle manufacturers include their own, factory-fitted brands of audio system. BMW falls into this group. All of BMW?s cars are supplied with a BMW car audio system. Many top car makers like to keep this level of control over the quality of their vehicles.

Other car makers, like Mercedes, prefer to leave the production and technology of such secondary vehicular accessories to third parties like Blaupunkt.

Blaupunkt, a German company, takes this degree of accountability very, very seriously. It is a huge mark of prestige that they have won the contract to supply car audio systems to businesses like Mercedes. This reputation gains them many more sales from people who want the same quality that is linked with Mercedes luxury vehicles.

Most of the standard systems these days incorporate a multi-band radio and a CD player, which may or may not have a CD auto-changer in the boot of the car. The most up to date car audio systems may also have MP3 and Internet access. These more recent stereo units usually allow the driver to plug in external media devices containing music or other files.

If you have an older car, you may want to improve your car stereo system to that of something that better suits your desires. This could be achieved by just changing the speakers or even adding further speakers.

However, you may think that it is simpler or simply better to just change the whole caboodle. There are many options regarding car stereos, but if you cannot hear the difference then there is no real point.

After all, music should not be a distraction from the main reason for sitting in a vehicle in the first place, which is to get from A to B safely.

The History Of The Common Tennis Ball

Saturday, April 30th, 2011

A tennis ball is very distinct and are used by millions of children and adults all over the world for playing tennis, of course, but many, many other less formal games too. They are not only the correct size for tennis, presumably anyway at 2.7 inches or 6.7 centimetres in diameter, but they also fit neatly into a hand or a dog’s mouth. Therefore people use them for playing catch, for various games of softball like rounders and for throwing for the dog to bring back.

When I was a child, all tennis balls were white, but now you would be very hard pushed indeed to find a white one if, if indeed it is at all possible. These days, all tennis balls are day-glow colours like yellow, green and orange. Presumably this change was made for the purpose of visibility on the TV screen.

The word ‘tennis’ comes from the French – ‘Tenez’ (pronounced ‘teney’), which meant ‘Take up Position’ or simply ‘Begin’. The origins of tennis were almost certainly well over a thousand years ago, when it was played by monks. The racquet or racket was the palm of the hand and the ball was wooden.

No-one is really sure whether the next innovation was to wear leather mitts or to modify the ball to leather, but whichever it was, there was clearly a move to make the game less painful. When the ball changed from being wooden, it was manufactured of animal skin, most often leather, sewn up with sinews and stuffed with anything that came to hand, such as straw, wool and hair – animal and human.

The point is that these early wooden and leather balls did not bounce, so the game was very different back then. Eventually, the monks began using ‘racquets’, but they looked more like bats than modern day tennis racquets.

In Disraeli’s book, “Sybil” (1845), the story line reveals how Lord Eugene De Vere was to go to Hampton Court to play tennis, so the game was a recognized sport then, but it took until the late Nineteen Century for the game that we know today to be formalized by a set of rules. In 1874, Major Walter Wingfield was granted the patent for the rules and equipment of ‘lawn tennis’ and not much has altered since.

The following year tennis courts were established in the USA and then the game of tennis spread like wildfire. Wingfield laid down the rules of the game and the type of equipment to be used. The game has not changed much since then in essence, but it has changed a great deal nevertheless. The outline of the court is different now and science has been applied to the apparatus to improve it.

The original ball in the late Nineteenth Century was manufactured of solid rubber and so must have been quite weighty, but at least it did bounce which immediately made the game more interesting and more energetic. A bouncing ball made tennis into a more interesting game to play and a more interesting game to watch. The rubber ball permitted tennis to be a spectator sport that crowds would pay to watch.

Contemporary tennis balls have a rubberized skin, which is about eighty percent rubber, filled with air and covered by a layer of ‘hairy’ felt. The felt is vital because it gives the surface of the ball more grip and can standardize the bounce as well. It also gives the ball a more predictable flight path even in the presence of wind.

The last aspect of modern tennis balls is the air inside. This can either be pressurized or non-pressurized. Pressurized balls give a better bounce whilst new, but they lose pressure with time and so are less reliable, whereas non-pressurized balls actually get better slightly with use, which is considered a benefit.

Swimming With Dolphins In Orlando

Tuesday, April 26th, 2011

Any time of the year is a useful time for planning family vacations, but you ought to plan well ahead in order to get the exact vacation that you would like. The perfect family holiday certainly depends on the sort of family that you have: is it a young family; are the children all boys; are the children and the parents for that matter daring or not; are they sporty or laid back?

Some individuals who do not get enough excitement during the year, like say office workers, prefer to go on adventure vacations when that time of the year comes around, whereas people with active jobs may prefer to laze around, say on a cruise, although cruising is not the perfect vacation for young children. There again, you might prefer to go on a vacation where you can take your dog.

In fact, it does not matter where you go or what you do, family vacations are times for giving the kids extraordinary memories that will stay with them for ever and family holidays also permit some very busy parents to bond with and get to know their children better.

Family vacations can also be used to further children’s horizons: city kids can go and look at the countryside or the seaside and vice-versa or you could take them abroad so that they can actually meet foreigners and learn a few words of another language.

One vacation that would permit adventure and seaside lounging about would be a trip to swim with dolphins at Discovery Cove, Florida, which is situated near SeaWorld. People are shown around Discovery Cove in small groups so that you get to ask all the questions you want.

One drawback is that children under six years of age are not permitted to swim with the dolphins, but other than that, all the equipment you will need and lunch are included in the price. It is not particularly cheap to swim with dolphins because dolphins are expensive to feed and maintain in a healthy condition, but it is definitely an unforgettable experience. It is a boon that all the apparatus is included in the price covering things like wet suit, snorkel, flippers and even towels.

However, you have to pre-book, you cannot simply walk in off the street. This is so that they can be sure to have enough team-leaders and enough apparatus for everyone. Once you have swum with the dolphins and played with them, the remainder of the day will be yours to enjoy the beautiful beaches, explore the shallows and observe the wild birds that are to be discovered on the property in profusion.

There is also a work training programme for those who think that they would like to take up this kind of job. Job training or work experience permits you more time with the staff and the animals behind the scenes so that you can get a sense of how such an establishment is run. If you are interested in a day out like these two cases, why not look them up on the Internet for more details?

Tennis Attire

Sunday, September 5th, 2010

If you already take part in tennis, then I imagine that you already know what tennis players wear, so this article is aimed at those individuals who would like to buy tennis kit for a loved one for a special occasion. After all, it is not as straightforward as it seems to obtain sports wear for the participant of a sport you understand nothing about.

There is a certain picture we are inclined to associate with a tennis player: white Polo top with shorts or skirt and matching shoes. They are trendy and stylish, comfortable and characteristic at the same time. Items of tennis clothes often signify a great deal to people who are not just sports fans. If the person you are shopping for is a tennis aficionado, tennis attire becomes a great gift that can also be quite reasonably priced despite the rumors that it costs a great deal.

In case tennis clothing is something unfamiliar to you, Google it over the Internet and you will be amazed to see how much information there is available. Very many forums will subtly inform you about prices and discounts going on at an assortment of retail stores and online merchants.

They will also provide you with information as to which marques are considered the best, which are considered the least hard-wearing and reliable, which are affordable and which more than usually dear .

What many tennis clothes wearers recommend is that you buy the sort of top or shirt that would make you feel most comfortable and that will permit the very wide angled movements that are peculiar to the practice of this sport. For example, the shorter the sleeves of your tennis attire, the freer the movement during the game. Some obtain tennis apparel also according to the season in which they mean to play. Still others go for the materials that can be worn in both warm and cold seasons.

They firmly believe that the tennis clothing must keep them both warm and cool at the same time. As far as the t-shirts for men are concerned, you should know that most players speak of Polo shirts in very high terms, as the collar offers you some neck protection from the sun’s rays.

Advice about tennis attire like that above are to be had on very many web sites. If you are not quite sure what to go for when purchasing your friend a gift, then you can always inveigle him or her to have a discussion about his or her favourite sport. Using a little guile, you will surely be able to direct the discussion to a related topic that interests you, that is tennis clothes. Making it all look like casual chit-chat would not make him or her guess what you have in mind for the special occasion.

Tennis Basics

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010

I trust that this, my first dissertation on the fundamentals of tennis, will be found useful by both novices and experts alike in the tennis world. I am trying to arouse interest in the student of the game of tennis by a somewhat prolonged discussion of match play, which I trust will shed a new light on the game of tennis.

I will address the novice in my opening article and write of certain matters which are second nature to the skilled player. The best tennis equipment is not a lot of good to the beginner even if he really wants to improve. However, one has to buy good quality; it is a saving in the end, as high quality goods far outlasts poor quality gear.

It is important to always dress in tennis attire when playing tennis. The question of selecting a tennis racquet is a much more serious matter. I do not advocate forcing a certain make of racquet upon any player, since all the famous brands are excellent. However, it is on the weight, balance, and size of handle that the real value of a racquet frame depends, while good stringing is essential to get optimum results.

After having selected your racquet, make a firm resolve to use only quality tennis balls, as a regular bounce is a great aid to advancement, while a “dead” ball is of no use at all. If you really desire to advance at the game and progress rapidly, I strongly urge you to see all the good tennis you can. Study the play of the leading players and try to copy their strokes. Read all the tennis instruction books you can get your hands on. They are a great assistance.

Much more tennis can be picked up off the tennis court in the study of theory and in watching the best players in play, than can ever be learned in one’s own actual play. I do not advise that you should miss opportunities to play tennis, far from it. Play tennis whenever possible, but strive when playing to put into practice the theories you have read about or the strokes you have seen.

Never let yourself become discouraged by slow progress. The manner of playing some stroke you have worked at for weeks unsuccessfully, will suddenly come to you when least expected. Good tennis players are the product of very hard work. Very few players are born geniuses at the game. Tennis is a game that pays you interest all your life. A tennis racquet is a letter of introduction in any town.

The brotherhood of tennis is universal, for none but a good sportsman can succeed in the game for any long period of time. Tennis provides relaxation, excitement, exercise, and pure enjoyment to the person who is tied hard and fast to his business until late in the afternoon.

The order of development that produces the quickest and most lasting results is: a. Concentration on the game. b. Keep the eye on the ball. c. Foot-work and weight-control. d. Strokes. e. Court position. f. Court generalship or match play. g. Tennis psychology.

Concentration. Tennis is played first with the mind. The most perfect racquet technique in the world will not suffice if the playing mind is erring. There are many reasons for a distracted mind in a tennis match. The main one is lack of interest in the game. No one should play tennis with any hope of real success unless he cares sufficiently about the game to be willing to do the drudgery necessary to learn the game correctly.

Jack it in right now if you are not willing to work very hard. The weather, conditions of play or the murmurs in the gallery usually confuse even very experienced match-players playing in new surroundings. Complete and utter concentration on the game is the only cure for a wandering mind, and the sooner that lesson is learned the more rapid the improvement of the player.

The surest way to keep a match in mind is to play for every set, every game in the set, every point in the game and, finally, every shot in the point. A set is merely a collection of made and missed shots, and the man who misses the least is the ultimate winner.

The French Open

Saturday, August 28th, 2010

It is highly unimaginable that people will not have heard of the French Open tennis championship, because it is a competition which is a regular topic of conversation. In French the name of the competition is ‘Les Internationaux de France de Roland Garros’ or ‘Tournoi de Roland Garros’. This tournament, which lasts for roughly a fortnight is held in Paris at the Roland Garros Stadium, from which it got its name.

It is one of the most advertised and broadcast sports events throughout the entire world and lots of VIPs go to it. The attendees are fanatics who wait with baited breath on every stroke, especially when there is a tight struggle between two players, doing their best to win. Even TV viewers actually get a feeling of being there live.

The French Open tennis championship is the second on the annual schedule of the Grand Slam tournaments and its history goes back to the year of 1891 when it became an international competition. At that time it was named the ‘International Championship of Tennis of France’ or ‘Championat de France International de Tennis’ in French.

Initially, only players that were registered or licensed in France were permitted to participate in this competition, but things took a different turn in 1925, when the French open tennis tournament finally became accessible to international players. Until 1912, the court the players used was made of crushed red brick dust. Actually the crushed brick was formed into a sort of red clay that was spread over the ground, which, until then, would have been a green lawn.

The popularity of the French Open tennis tournament held at Roland Garros dates back to a competition between the Philadelphia Four (Rene Lacoste, Jean Borotra, Henri Cochet and Jacques Brugnon) who won the Davis Cup in 1927. It triggered the desire in the French to defend their cup in future competitions. This new tournament designed to bring back home the cup was held on a stadium named after the World War I pilot Roland Garros and since then the name has stuck.

The term ‘open’ became has been used from 1968, when the tournament allowed both amateurs and professionals alike who wanted to test their skills at tennis. Since then the French Open tennis tournament has also brought some novelties in terms of prizes.

Apart from the usual winners’ prizes, they also give prizes called ‘Prix Orange’ for the most correct and press-friendly player, ‘Prix Citron’ for the player with the strongest personality and ‘Prix Burgeon’ for the one the best new-comer of the tennis year.

Tennis Psychology (Part 1)

Saturday, June 5th, 2010

Tennis psychology is nothing more than understanding the workings of your opponent’s mind and gauging the effect of your own strategy on his/her head and also understanding the psychological effects resulting from the different external causes on your own head.

Nevertheless, it is also true that you no one can be a successful psychologist of others without first understanding his own psychology. So, you have to study the effect on yourself of the same thing occurring under different conditions. This is because people react differently in different moods and under different conditions.

You have to realize the effect on your game of the ensuing annoyance, joy, bewilderment, or whatever other form your reaction is. Does it improve your prowess? If so, strive for it, but never offer it to your opponent. Does it deprive you of concentration? If so, either remove the reason, but if that isn’t possible, strive to ignore it.

Once you have accurately judged your own reaction to circumstances, observe your opponents in order to decide their temperaments. Like characters react similarly, and you can judge men of your own type by yourself. Other characters you must seek to compare with people whose reactions you know.

A person who can control his/her own mental processes runs an excellent chance of determining those of someone else for the minds works along certain lines of thought and can be examined. One may only control one’s own mental processes after examining them meticulously.

A steady, phlegmatic baseline player is seldom a quick thinker. If he was he would not adhere to the baseline. The physical appearance of a player is usually a pretty clear indicator of his/her kind of mind. The stolid, easy-going player, who usually advocates the baseline game, does so because he hates to stir up his/her slow mind to work out a safe method of reaching the net.

However, then there is the other type of baseline player, who would prefer to stay at the rear of the court while supervising an attack intending to break up your game. He is a very dangerous player and a deep, keen thinking antagonist. He obtains his/her results by mixing up his/her length and direction and worrying you with the variance of his/her game. This player is a very good psychologist.

The first type of player mentioned above just strikes the ball with little idea of what he is actually doing, while the latter always has a definite plan and adheres to it.

The Psychology of Tennis (Part 2)

Friday, April 16th, 2010

The hard-hitting, erratic, net-rushing tennis-player is a person of impulse. There is no real strategy to his/her game, no understanding of your game-plan. He will make brilliant coups on the spur of the moment, mostly by instinct; but there is no, no consistent thinking. It is an interesting sort of character.

The really unnerving player is the one who mixes his/her strategy from back to fore court at the direction of an ever-active mind. This/her is the player to study and learn from. He is a player with a definite purpose. A player who has an answer to every query you present him in your game. He is the most subtle antagonist in the world of tennis. He is from the school of Brookes. Second only to him is the player of dogged determination that sets his/her mind on one plan and adheres to it, bitterly, fiercely battling to the end, with no thought of change.

He is the player whose psychology is rather easy to work out, but whose mental standpoint is hard to derail, because he never permits himself to think of anything but the business at hand. This/her player is your Johnston or your Wilding. I respect the intelligence of Brookes more, but I admire the tenacity of purpose of Johnston.

Choose your kind from your own mental processes, and then work out your game along the lines best suited to you. When two men are in the same class as regards stroke, strength and equipment, the determining factor in any match is the mental viewpoint. Luck, so-called, is often just grasping the psychological advantage of a change of flow in the game, and turning it to your own advantage. We hear a great deal about the “shots he has made.” Few understand the importance of the “shots he has missed.”

The science of missing shots is just as vital as that of making them, and at times a miss by an inch is of more value than a return that is killed by your opponent. Allow me to explain. A player forces you far out of court with an angle-shot. You run hard to it, and having reached it, you drive it hard and fast down the side-line, missing it by an inch. Your opponent is shocked and shaken, realizing that your shot could just as well have gone in as out. He will expect you to attempt it again and he will not take the risk next time. He will strive to play the ball, and may make an error. You have thus stolen some of your opponent’s confidence, and increased his/her chance of error, all because of a miss.

However, if you had merely popped back that ball, and it had been killed, your opponent would have felt increasingly confident of your inability to get the ball out of his/her reach, while you would only have been out of breath to no avail.

Let’s suppose that you made the shot down the sideline. It was an apparently impossible get. First it amounts to TWO points in that it took one away from your opponent that should have been his/her and gave you one you ought never to have had. Second it also worries your opponent, because he feels that he has thrown away a big chance.

The psychology involved in a tennis match is very interesting, but readily understandable. Both men start with equal chances. Once one player establishes a real lead, his/her confidence goes up, while his/her opponent worries, and his/her mental standpoint becomes poor. The only objective of the first player is to hold his/her lead, thereby maintaining his/her confidence.

If the second player draws even or pulls ahead, the inevitable result is an even greater contrast in psychology of the players. First, there is the natural confidence of the leader of the game, but it is boosted by the great stimulus of having turned a seemingly inevitable defeat into a likely victory. The case of the other player is the reverse. He is apt to lose confidence and play worse. The breakdown of his game plan will be the result.

Modest Retirement Gifts For Golfers

Monday, January 11th, 2010

There is a commonly-held belief that golf is a pastime and sport of entrepreneurs and businessmen. It also has the reputation of being exclusive and elite and not being accessible to ordinary blue collared workers. However, this is not really true, since modernization and commercialization have brought this so-called elite sport into the realm of normal people.

This is because you don’t need to buy sophisticated equipment to join in. Unlike big game fishing or polo which need a lot of resources – a boat or a horse respectively – golfers just need a set of golf clubs, which are reasonably affordable these days. Bearing this in mind, retirement gifts for golfers and aspiring golfers are more easily thought of.

Personalized retirement gifts to personalize golfing equipment is quite simple. You could easily make personalized gifts by embroidering such items as golf club pouches or caddy covers. These can be knitted, if you are a knitter or by any similar craft which may use different materials.

Another idea is to tap into the fashion aspect of golfing which means to focus on the things worn by a golfer. You may even set a new trend in golfing apparel using a lively imagination and an interesting clothing design for your retiree.

Normal gifts. The most common and usual method of getting a retirement gift for golfers is to go over to the nearest sports shop and get your retiree some of the things sold there. It may sound a little impersonal to just get the retiree a commercially made gift but then this may actually prove really useful if the retiree is still a novice or beginner golfer. Maybe you might want to get him a golf club set as this is the basic requirement to be able to play golf.

Moreover, you may find some more accessories there that your retiree golfer still needs, but then perhaps you could also contribute your imagination to think about what things can be made to enhance the golfing equipment he may already have.

Commercially available golfing equipment is also useful, if you want to make your retiree feel professional. You could give him a famous set of clubs, making him look like a pro.

Gags and Jokes The fun part of choosing to give a joke present instead is the humour these items can invest. It also adds to the lighter side of the golf-playing retiree’s party and his friends will be able to join in with smiles, laughs and jokey comments too.

The joke present should be chosen quite carefully as the joke present may represent a sensitive matter for the retiree, especially if he is still a novice player. Joke gift for golfers might be taken badly and hinder their learning if they are disturbed by the idea represented by the joke present given to them.

However, for veteran players who already know the game well, the gift of a good gag gift on their retirement day would be quite funny as they would see golfing not only as a way to reduce stress but to actually just have some fun as well.

You should see retirement gifts for golfers as just a simple way to make your golfer friend enjoy life after his career is over.

Have a great time if you are going to or planning a Golfer’s Retirement Party, however if you want to get a deeper understanding of retirement, please go to our website Retirement Planning.
