Auto Gps System-Does It Matter Which One You Get?

Sunday, December 27th, 2009

Where am I suppose to turn?!

Do you find yourself saying those words often? If so then you should probably consider purchasing an auto GPS system. By using one of these systems, you can really make your life stress free on the road. Not only do GPS systems guide you to where you are going to go, they also help you find the cheapest gas stations, roadside assistance, food, entertainment, and whatever else you can imagine. The new systems will even give you live traffic updates to help you get out of a traffic jam.

The first thing you should look at when examining a GPS system is the number of “points of interest” it has. For the most part, all the newest systems have a great number of POI’s but you should still check just to be sure.

The next thing you will want to take a look at after the points of interest is the size of the screen. You need to decide whether you want to go with a big screen or a small screen. If you want a big one then you should get a screen around seven inches, A screen that is around 2.5 to 4 inches is perfect if you prefer it small.

Some GPS systems allow you to play music through them. However, these are more expensive and most likely not worth it because most cars can already play iPods and radios.

When purchasing a GPS system, you need to decide what you are going to be using it for. If you drive a lot for work it is worth it to spend a little extra money on a system that will give you live traffic updates. You will not be needing this feature if you do not drive often or you are just interested in getting the directions to a place.

The newest GPS systems actually have a text to voice capability which means it will actually tell you what street to turn on and in how many miles. This is extremely important as it allows you to concentrate on the road rather than having to look at the screen.

What To Look For In GPS Systems For Cars

Monday, December 21st, 2009

There are times in life where driving can become extremely stressful because you get lost. One thing is sure though, if you have a GPS with you, you will never get lost. By the time you are done reading this article, you will know what the most important parts of a GPS system are so you can purchase one that is right for you.

Display

The first thing you should be looking at is the size of the screen. The smaller the screen is the harder it will be to see where you will be needing to turn. It is best to get a screen between 6 and 7 inches.

Maps

After you find a system that has the screen size you like, you need to take a look at its map coverage. You will need one that covers all of North America, and you might want to consider one that covers Canada if you will be traveling a lot. Some of the systems out there allow you to plug a GPS into your computer on download maps onto it.

Directional

Having your GPS system actually talk to you is probably the best way to get directions, it sure beats having to constantly look at the map. You will find that basically all the systems have some form of speech but not all of them have the text to speech. When the system has built in text to speech capability, you will actually be told what street to turn on rather than just hearing “turn right in 500 feet”.

Design

You need to choose a design that you like, there is no right or wrong for this. However, if you drive more than one car it is important you look for one that will allow you to transport it easily from car to car.
