Wrinkle Cream For The Eyes

Wednesday, May 9th, 2012

Most people find that the first sign of aging is thin lines around the eyes. If these project sideways from the outer corners of the eyes, they are referred to as “crows’ feet”. It the first sign people look to when trying to assess someone’s age. Therefore, it is the first place that people who would like to conceal their age turn their attention to.

The skin about the eyes is some of the thinnest and most delicate that we have and so it does have difficulty retaining moisture. This is why most individuals who use moisturizer begin applying moisturizer to the skin around the eyes first – frequently fairly young in life, well before their skin actually needs it, in the hope that their skin will appreciate the assistance by never showing its true age.

However, you can not merely rub any old cream on your face and hope for the best, so here are a few tips to help make your selection of anti-wrinkle cream successful.

The first thing to realize is that no manufacturer of anti-wrinkle cream is going to tell you the whole truth. They all use cunning words to conceal the truth. Anti-wrinkle cream is not like paint, you cannot believe what you read on the tin. So, you will have to go by private recommendation and trial and error.

Give a cream a couple of weeks or until the first pot runs out and if there is no improvement, move on. What works for your friend may not work for you, there being several types of skin.

Do you in fact know your skin sort? Have you ever had it analyzed? If, not this is a good place to begin. Once you know the skin sort you have about your eyes, you can eliminate at least two-thirds of the creams on the supermarket shelves.

Most honest experts on skin aging will tell you that the biggest enemy of smooth skin is the sun. Therefore, you ought to apply a moisturizing sunscreen around the eyes from an early age. If the skin around your eyes is super-sensitive or you are allergic to creams, you should always wear a wide-brimmed hat or at least avoid going out in the sun whilst it is at its hottest, say, between 10 AM and 4 PM. and wear sunglasses that will block out the UV rays.

Applying antioxidants to the outside and the inside of the skin will help as well. It is at least as important what you drink as what you rub on. Drinking alcohol and smoking are known to dry out the skin. Avoid diuretics like coffee too. Diuretics cause you to lose more water than you take in with it, so for instance, drinking a cup of coffee may cause you to lose a coffee cup and a quarter of bodily fluids.

Your skin has to have lots of moisture, you can help it by applying it from the outside, but you can also help it by drinking lots of water, which will also help your body flush out toxins – a double whammy!

Purchasing A Hot Tub

Thursday, April 26th, 2012

For most individuals, purchasing a hot tub spa, also known as a gazebo, a hot spa or a Jacuzzi, is a first time event. This makes it quite a daunting undertaking, because they are not cheap and there are numerous variables.

You have to do research on the different types of jets, the power of the pump that is best for you, the location, whether to install a deck around it or not et cetera, et cetera. In this piece, we will take a look at a few of these points to make buying a hot tub easier for you.

The first thing to think about is size. This usually depends on two items: where you are going to put the hot tub and how many individuals are going to be using it at a time. If you are hoping to put it above the ground floor inside your home, you will have to check the weight of the spa while it is full of water and people to see whether your floor will take that weight without reinforcement. If the climate is decent where you live, the garden is the best place to put it.

The next deliberation is price. There is a vast choice of hot tubs and a wide span of prices too. If you find that the price of a new hot tub is just out of your range, what about purchasing a second hand one?

There is rather a substantial second hand market in Jacuzzis because hotels, health spas and some home owners have to renew their models. You might be lucky enough to find quite a plush second hand model for less than the price of a new cheap one. Enquire at a local installer’s for details.

The next consideration is the material that the actual tub is manufactured from. This is not inevitably the same as the housing or cabinet that surrounds the tub. Traditional-style hot tubs are made from local hardwoods such as cedar, oak, redwood or teak, but they are weighty and leak a bit.

Modern materials used are a mixture of plastic and fibreglass moulded into comfortable seating arrangements. They are lighter and do not leak (or ought not to).

Then you can think about the housing. Is the hot tub spa going to be on its own somewhere or is it going to be built in? if you are going to build it in, what are you going to build it into? A deck? Hardwood, softwood, concrete and tiles?

Then there is the general maintenance of the tub. This is not difficult but it is essential, so when you are building your tub into something, remember that you will need access to various parts of it. Read the manual of the tub that you buy to learn which parts will need maintenance and cleaning.

Usually, this involves cleaning the jets, adding chemicals to the water, renewing filters and maybe changing a gasket on the pump, which could be assigned to an engineer in an annual service deal.

Day Spas And What They Offer

Wednesday, April 25th, 2012

Are you feeling a bit jaded? A bit run-down or even worn out? Do you feel like you need a holiday, but you do not have the time or do not have the money right now? Well, a trip to a day spa might be the answer. Most women have been to a beauty salon and so have some men, but fewer people of both sexes have been to a day spa.

A day spa is an extended version of a beauty salon. The extra amenities usually involve water in some way or oil – something liquid. However, day spas resemble beauty salons in that they usually offer all of the treatments that a beauty salon offers and pampering is the prime object.

It is the pampering as much as anything that can wash your cares away for a while and make you feel as if you have just come back from a short vacation. Four hours at a day spa can be more relaxing (and far better for you) than a weekend away on the razzle.

If you have never been to a spa before, it is worth doing a local search on the Internet and seeing what web sites come up. A decent web site ought to list the treatments that they offer, their prices and any special offers (frequently known as day packages). It ought to also mention whether you have to book up or merely call in.

The prices may appear outrageous at first, but it is worth checking how long the procedure takes and whether there are any special preparations or oils involved, because they may be costly. Day packages can reduce the price of a number of related treatments quite significantly. If you still find it costly, maybe you could plan a visit for a couple of weeks in advance.

Something else that you should factor in while thinking about day spas and costs is the tranquility. Most spas have strict rules concerning noise. So, no small children, no shouting, no cell phones or pagers, no radios or Walkmen, just soothing background music. Everything in a day spa is meant to make you feel pampered, cared for, less stressed and much more relaxed.

So what services can you expect to find at a day spa? Well, everything that you would expect to find at a beauty salon for a start off, so that includes manicure, pedicures, hair styling, facials and make-up or make-overs.

However, a spa ought to also supply massages of various types like a full body massage, an oil massage, a Thai massage, a foot massage and maybe others too. They might also have a steam box or a sauna and / or Turkish Baths, mud wraps, herbal wraps, mud baths and even flotation chambers. Many spas provide aroma therapy and offer complimentary healthy drinks like fruit and vegetable juices too. Some may even have a swimming pool as well.

Detoxes feature quite highly at most spas and some might offer colonic irrigation as well. However, the best value for money are the day packages or one-off specials, which permit you to combine several treatments for one discounted payment.

The Wonders Of Hot Tubs And Jacuzzis

Wednesday, April 25th, 2012

It is lovely to soak in a hot tub, is it not? After a long day at the hamster wheel or sorting the family out – driving the kids to and from school and then to the scouts, sports club or music lessons. Being stuck in traffic on the way home or waiting in the queue at the supermarket, a long soak in a hot tub helps wash it all away.

Consider then what a hot tub spa or Jacuzzi could do? Lazing in a hot spa tub with a long cool drink whilst six jets are blasting hot water and bubbles at you, massaging you gently, taking the stresses of the day away.

You could have one in the garden or in the bathroom. You could even get a portable hot spa tub and move it into the garden in the summer and back inside in the winter. If you ask most people what they would like to have in the manner of home improvement, a swimming pool would almost certainly be number one and a hot spa tub number two.

There again, a lot of people do not have the room for a swimming pool and a Jacuzzi is a lot cheaper than a swimming pool as well. Water has a calming effect on individuals. Maybe it is a primeval memory of when we came out of the sea millions of years ago or maybe it is a more recent memory of being in the womb.

Whatever the reason or even mixture of reasons, people like to be in, around or on water, it relaxes and revitalizes us. And frothing, bubbling water is even more soothing and even more revitalizing. Hence the popularity of hot tub spas.

Another reason might be gravity. All day long we are lumbering about, each foot step sending shock waves into our body and gravity pulling down on so that we feel every ounce of our weight, but as soon as we are in water, we are buoyed up and the effects of our weight and of gravity are felt far less.

In fact, up to 30% less. Additionally, we are ninety-odd percent water, so no surprise we feel tranquil in a hot tub. But that is not all that a soak in a hot tub does. It warms you right through, through to the marrow and that relieves minor aches and pains. The reduction in gravity is also said to be a relief to sufferers of arthritis.

There are possibly other reasons as well why individuals feel more relaxed in a tub of hot water, especially a whirlpool type spa tub, but one for me is that I will not get out of the tub for anything except to get another drink. Once I am in there, I do not care if the phone rings or the door bell chimes. The house would have to be on fire to get be me out before my skin looks like a wrinkled old prune.

Owen Jones, the author of this article, writes on a number of subjects, but is now concerned with second hand hot tubs. If you would like to know more, please visit our web site at Hot Springs Spa Parts

Choosing Your Tattoo Parlour

Monday, April 9th, 2012

If you have decided to have a tattoo, the decision was almost certainly hard enough – at least it ought to have been – but now you have to choose where you are going to have it done. It is not so difficult to find a reliable tattoo artist in most countries, but it is still worth carrying out a few routine checks before you walk into the shop.

To start with, you ought to keep in mind that they are going to carry out minor surgery on you and that that person is not medically qualified, which is why it is worth being wary. You do not need to have an infected tattoo and have to go to hospital. So, the first thing you could do is call the environmental health department and enquire whether they know of any problems with that particular tattoo parlour.

The chances are that they have not, otherwise they would probably have shut it down, but at least you will know for certain. The next thing to do is to walk into the shop as if you just have a passing interest. Look about for certificates of competence and make a mental note of the name of the person it was granted to and when.

Most people find it more comforting, the longer the tattooist has been carrying out his or her trade. If the studio is busy come back later or make an appointment to talk to someone. Ensure that the person you are going to talk to holds some position of responsibility – the owner or a qualified, working tattooist.

While you are there, look for signs of cleanliness. Does the place look sterile? Are people wearing gloves? Are they smoking or eating when working? Disease is the biggest problem, but some infections can be deadly

Therefore, we are not just talking about maybe having to take a course of penicillin. Disease can get very serious, although it hardly ever is, but you do not want it anyway.

While you are discuss the tattoo that you want, enquire if the tattooist has experience with that sort of design. Some tattoo artists might specialize in Celtic designs or Dragons. It is definitely worth being certain that they are able to do the work. Request to see an example – they almost certainly have photographs of previous clients.

When discussing your tattoo, does the tattooist attempt to encourage you to have a bigger or more expensive tattoo? There ought not to be any hassling. If they think that your job is too small for them, they ought to just say that they are too busy. If you think that you are being pressured into having a dearer tattoo, go elsewhere.

Finally, cost is not everything. If it all works out well for you, you will be pleased with your tattoo for the remainder of your life, so paying a bit more to have it done correctly and safely is a small price to pay unless you are an octogenarian already.

Owen Jones, the writer of this piece writes on many topics, but is currently involved with Celtic Tattoos. If you would like to know more go to our web site at Amiable Dragon.

Why You Ought Not To Download Movies Illegally

Wednesday, March 21st, 2012

80% of Americans think it stealing to walk out of a store with a DVD that they did not pay for. Just half as many people think downloading a movie from the Net is a crime. The fact is that there is really no difference at all between the two; these are both serious crimes that are liable to be punished by by law.

If you download a movie from a P2P file sharing program, you do not have the permission of the individual or corporation who owns the rights to that movie.

This is the same thing as going to the DVD film store and putting a DVD in your bag and strolling out the door without paying. Peer-to-peer networks like BearShare, Kazaa , Vuze (aka Bittorrent) and LimeWire do not have the consent of the rightful owner to distribute copyrighted motion picture download files over the Internet, unlike legal sites..

Why Is File Sharing Of Movie Downloads Against the law?

The foremost object of copyrighting materials and DVD movies is for the protection of the rights of the individual or corporation initially responsible for the creation of the material (in our case movies).

Those who own the rights to protected material have the exclusive power to alter, duplicate or distribute their product.

Copyright laws are to prevent the sale or use of the protected material by unauthorized methods.

Imagine working day in and day out on an amazing research article for years, only to have it posted online for everybody to download free.

This is how artists and entertainers feel whenever their intellectual property is passed out for free all around the Net, providing them no compensation for it.

Now, you are beginning to see what is driving so many in the direction of legal action for motion picture downloads.

How To Tell What Is Real?

It may be a problem to tell if the site that you are visiting is legal or not. If the site that you are on is not a trusted site where you are certain that you are downloading completely licensed movies every time, then do not download a single movie.

Here are some tips on how to discern illegal movie download sites:

1.If the web site claims to have ?millions of movies to download? , ?80 million movies online?, ?movies,Television shows and music downloads? etc.. all for a small one time fee then you may almost be sure the web site will sell you P2P software.

2.Try looking at the small print in bottom part of the website?s front page. usually for illegal P2P movie download sites you will find some form of warning that looks like this: (most of these sites use the very same warning):

?There are currently millions of users downloading and trading files legally on file-sharing networks. You can|, for instance, legally download music from over 850 bands and more than 20,000 live concerts but also have access to numerous software titles and games. File sharing has enabled music fans from all over the world to build the largest library of recorded music in history.

File sharing is not illegal as long as you obey and comply with all relevant copyright regulations. Sharing copyrighted material without the permission to do so is illegal. You will find detailed directions on how to remain legal within the member’s area. The purchase of a membership, however, is not a license to upload or download copyrighted material. We urge you to respect copyright and share responsibly.?

Here is a different well-liked text you might find on these sites

?This web site has no affiliation whatsoever with the owner of this software program and merely provides links to freeware and/or shareware software, technical support and tutorials.?

3. Try looking for a genuine trust seal on the web site?s registration pages.

4.Several record companies, movie studios and individual artists post knowledge on their official website to let you know if they allow their copyrighted material to be distributed online. Be sure to check those precise sites before you download their material from any third party or share it with others.

Concerning Copyright of Movies.

Copyrights are only valid for fifty to one hundred twenty years. As soon as a copyright expires, the material that one at one time protected becomes open to the public. Material that is available in public domain can legally be reproduced, distributed and downloaded by anyone, anywhere, anytime. The majority of recent works are most likely protected currently under copyright regulations.

Where Can I Go If I Still Want To Download?

Everybody on Earth wants some form of entertainment from time to time, and for most of us it is music, video games, TV programmes, movies, PC applications, etc. With the threat of legal action hanging over your head with every movie you download, where may you go to be certain that the material you are listening to, watching, playing and downloading is legal?

The truth is that you have several choices, if you are still keen to build your collection by downloading movies from the Net.

* You could search the Internet for sites that supply updated lists of websites, where you may legally download, watch or burn to CD the files that you would like for a minimal fee. Enjoy full-length movies without any commercials or spyware to worry you.

* A number of television networks offer full episodes of their programmes with commercial interruption from their official site. Networks such as NBC, ABC and CBS typically offer new episodes of their shows the following morning after they are broadcast on air in their ordinary time slot (most of the time these are geo limited to the United States only).

* MySpace and Fox are working together to bring you Fox on Demand, permitting you to watch the most recent episodes of your favorite Fox programmes online for free.

* You will find full-length movies with expired copyrights and accessible to the public at Entertainment Magazine Online.

* If music is your thing, you could create a radio station of your own that just plays the genres and songs that you decide on with limited commercial interruption for a limited time every month for free at Pandora Radio. You can make playlists and listen to your favourites at FineTune.

With so many options at your disposal, there is no necessity to go astray and risk serious fines or jail time by downloading movies files illegally.

The Significant Risks Of Sharing Movie Files

The holders of copyrights have methods of finding out which movie download files are being shared by your computer.

All they have to do is get in touch with the authorities and send them your way because the law is in favour of the copyright holder. The RIAA sent letters to almost four hundred university students in 2007 related to illegal file sharing.

The students, not their schools, were each held responsible for paying the restitution required to resolve the claims against them for copyright infringement. In as little as six months, the RIAA had brought claims against over two thousand university students. These students were made to pay an average of $3,000 per person, not including court costs and attorney fees.

The RIAA is not merely targeting university students, this is only one example. It does not matter who you are, how old you are or where you live, if you download or share files on the Net illegally you will beheld responsible.

Even if you are a minor, do not think you will get away with it; they will come after your parents if they cannot get to you.

The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) is also setting out to prosecute violators as well. So, it is not worth the danger you take with any other procedure.

Do not be mistaken in believing that legal action is the only danger to downloading files illegally from the Net.

You may be one of the number who does not worry about being caught, but do not consider that hackers might get into your system and download your personal and confidential data and use it for a horde of malicious things.

P2P file sharing programs work by letting the users connect to one another’s hard drives to copy files. Any files that you have in shared folders is accessible to anyone who wants to steal or copy them.

Numerous programs do not even use specialized folders for sharing, instead they simply supply users access to each other’s “Documents” folder. This means that all of your Word documents, photographs, banking software, and more could become at risk. You should know that on average one out of three computer attacks are the result of using P2P networks.

Peer-to-peer networks are one of the easiest methods for hackers to spread their spyware and viruses all over the Internet. All they have to do is make a file that contains a virus, but give it a name that is the same as a popular song or movie title. The P2P user downloads the file to his or her computer expecting to see the latest blockbuster, but instead all they get is a seriously infected computer.

Horror stories of what can happen to your computer if you use P2P file sharing programs are in abundance.

What You Should Do In order to avoid the significant consequences of downloading movies from the Net:

It is suggested that if you are using any P2P clients, you disable them instantly and remove their software from your computer.

A number of guides are obtainable with directions on disabling a peer-to-peer file sharing client and taking it off your machine. Simply type, “disable P2P” into your favourite search engine to find all the info you need.

The best way to avoid the consequences of illegal movie downloads is to sign up to a legal movie download website. These web site just charge a negligible one time fee, instead of the “per download” cost that you pay from other legal websites. Legal sites with movie downloads are becoming more and more popular as people are becoming worried about lawsuits, identity theft and computer damage.

These site offer faster movie download speeds than you will find on any of the illegal P2P networks because they are coming from their own server and are not limited to the amount of people sharing the file ,the movie being downloaded is not shared in the first place.

In addition, the quality of the movies downloaded tends to be much better because you have access to the full-length, licensed version, as opposed to something that was recorded by someone who smuggled a camera into the movie theater.

The movies that you get from legal sites you are able to watch instantly as they stream on your computer. You can| download them to your hard drive if you like to watch them later, or you could burn them to CD or DVD if you want to put on an external player.

It is strongly recommended that you use legal download sites to download movies from the Net. The subscription costs are cheap and the site is simple to use. Most importantly you are able to enjoy movies in peace without having to constantly look over your shoulder to be certain the MPAA, RIAA, FBI or a swam of hackers are not looking for you.

Central Air Purifiers For The Whole House

Thursday, March 15th, 2012

We have all heard of central heating and most of us have heard of central air conditioning, but how about central air purifying? Indeed, is there such a thing? When you go to the mall or general department stores, you tend to see local air purifiers, that is air purifiers that clear the air in one room only. They are portable systems, so that you can watch TV with it on and then take it into your bedroom at night.

This is all right as far as it goes, but rooms are interconnected and the ‘dirty’ air soon comes in and mingles with your nice clean air. What you really need to do is clean all the air in the whole house, in every room simultaneously. This would be on the same principal as central air conditioning. In fact most central air conditioning systems incorporate an air purifying system. Admittedly, they are usually pretty basic on older conditioners, but they can be very sophisticated too, if you are willing to get a more expensive new conditioner.

The middle ground if you do not want to upgrade your central air conditioner or even if you do not want to air conditioning, is to fit a central or ‘whole house’ air purification system. This is most easily and most economically carried out if you already have ducting in your house for central heating or air conditioning. The central air purification unit is then simply put in line with your existing ducting.

The central air purifying apparatus is installed into a home’s central HVAC (heat, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) system, just upstream from the air handler (the furnace or the air conditioner), similar to a central humidifier. This type of central installation enables CAP (Central Air Purification) systems to continuously remove allergens, pollutants and other irritants from the air being supplied to the entire occupied living space of the home, rather than just one room. installing the CAP unit like also keeps it completely out of sight and out of the way.

CAP systems can be fitted into virtually any type and configuration of forced air HVAC system, regardless of age, and are a common sense add-on or upgrade. Many of these systems incorporate a powerful ultraviolet light for added purification. This is called photo catalytic oxidation.

Photo catalytic oxidation has been proved to be highly effective at clearing airborne biological and chemical contamination (206% more powerful than chlorine and 157% more powerful than hydrogen peroxide. The energy field in the photo-catalytic chamber is roughly 10,000 times more powerful than natural sunlight).

These modern whole house or central air purifiers are extremely efficient and can give a new lease of life to sufferers of airborne allergies such as pollen. The system is relatively inexpensive, if you already have ducting in place, otherwise that could cost you an extra $3,000 – 4,000. The actual air purification units themselves are a lot cheaper, costing between $300 and $1,000 and the installer can fit them in minutes with common tools.

Owen Jones, the author of this piece, writes on many subjects, but is currently involved with central air conditioner prices. If you are interested in Home Air Conditioning Systems, please click through to our site.

Is Thai Massage Any Different?

Saturday, March 10th, 2012

If you have ever had or seen a massage, it was probably a Swedish massage, which is the most common form given in the West. However, there is a different form known as Thai massage which is catching on. In fact, Thai massage is one of the oldest variations of massage and could well be the oldest.

Thai massage is said in some Buddhist scripts to have been developed 2,500 years ago by Jivaka Komarabhacca, who was physician to Lord Buddha himself. There could well be a lot of truth in that, but the Thai massage we see today is also likely to be a a blend of styles from a number of regions including China and India.

Thai massage is quite exhausting, which makes it rather different from other forms of massage and makes it appear to be related to Yoga, although all the bending and stretching is forced upon the receiver by the massage therapist. Besides Yoga-like postures, Thai massage makes use of muscle compression, joint mobilization and acupressure.

Thai massage can be performed out on a stiff massage bed, but in Thailand it is normally carried out on a thin mattress on the floor. The room might be private or there may be more than one client in there at a time.

Thai massage is not usually carried out in the nude, but loose hanging clothes are recommended. No oil is used in this kind of massage, but many masseurs will use a sort of ‘deep heat’ cream.

A typical Thai massage session will last one or two hours, but may go on for three or more and there may be one or two masseurs working on a patient together. The masseur starts with the feet and is similar to radiology. The masseur will bend and twist one foot at a time, stretch the toes and apply sustained pressure to certain points on the sole of the foot.

The masseur then continues up the legs working from the front and the back. Thai masseurs use their hands like most massage therapists, but if they would like to apply more pressure, they will also use their elbows, knees and heels. It is easier to give deep therapy to substantial muscles like those on the back of the thighs with the heels of the feet than with the hands.

The knees and elbows are used to massage the spine and the back in general and lots of masseurs walk on their client’s back to make full use of their weight. A good masseur will massage you with their toes as they are standing on bones and pressure points in your spine and back. Occasionally they will walk up the backs of the legs as well if the muscles are too tight.

Thai massage works with ‘sen’, which resemble but not the same as Chinese meridians. It is known to boost circulation, lower stress and lower blood pressure and can even reduce weight.

The masseur also works on the arteries stopping and impeding the flow of blood for short spells of time in order to manipulate the heart ‘from the inside’ so to speak.

Thai massage is very much a healing massage rather than one for light relaxation like Swedish massage, but once you are fit, it can be soothing as well.

Owen Jones, the writer of this piece, writes on numerous topics, but is at present involved with the thai massage parlor video. If you have an interest in massage, please go over to our web site now at Classes For Massage Therapy

The Only Way To Stop Smoking Cigarettes

Saturday, March 10th, 2012

Smoking cigarettes used to be a great deal more widespread than it is today. Now most smokers are searching for methods of stopping smoking. This is because smokers and the general public at large are more aware of the risks of smoking cigarettes nowadays.

Just look at films manufactured in the Sixties and before, everyone is smoking. It shows how common smoking was compared with today. This would not be allowed now as you may not smoke in public places, on public transport, in restaurants or in bars any more in most Western countries and elsewhere as well.

The problem with smoking is that not only the smoker suffers, so does everyone around about the smoker. This is known as passive smoking and it has an effect on those working or living with smokers – a barmaid or a spouse for example. So, all these individuals are endangering their health so that tobacco firms can become richer.

No matter how long someone has been smoking, it is possible to quit the habit. Anyone who has stopped smoking will tell you that stopping smoking cigarettes is all to do with the mind. You really have to desire to stop smoking or you will not do it successfully.

Individuals have different ways of stopping smoking cigarettes. Some say that nicotine patches or nicotine gum help, because you can wean yourself off nicotine slowly without having to inhale the poisonous smoke of cigarettes. Nicotine is highly addictive and most of the chemical withdrawal symptoms have to do with the shortage of nicotine in the body.

Most individuals find that the single effective way of stopping smoking cigarettes is to stop smoking dead – in one go. It is very hard to cut down or to switch to a weaker brand. You are still inhaling poisonous smoke. It is still no good to you or anyone about you.

Cutting down or switching brands is not effective, because you will still smoke other smokers’ and you will still be in a smokers’ environment. You will also find yourself smoking tomorrow’s five cigarettes today, promising not to smoke any the next day. That never works. You have to quit smoking dead.

There are a number of situations that can provide the motivation to quit smoking cigarettes. Illness is usually high on the list. A few years ago two friends of mine who smoked heavily stopped smoking cigarettes within weeks of each other.

One was in his sixties and had smoked for almost sixty years: he was told that his lungs were beginning to go, but that if he stopped smoking, the shock might kill him. He quit smoking one morning and survived, but what a dilemma!

The other was in his fifties and drove a lot as a travelling salesman. The doctor told him that he would probably have to have a leg removed next year, if he did not stop smoking and that the other might go a year or so after that. He stopped smoking instantly and still has both legs.

So it seems that the trick to stopping smoking cigarettes successfully is to find your motivation (do you want to live long enough to see the grandkids married?) and bear that image in front of you at all times. Take nicotine substitutes if you have to and keep away from environments where people smoke more, like taverns.Join a sports club instead, something like tennis, table tennis, swimming or even chess.
