While you do your rite of passage you’ll probably start to note that just about every object and element you look at within the wilderness may have a unique feeling and texture within you. Merely let go of stress, place your focus on the inner sensations inside your system and notice the feeling within of what you are with.
Similar to the sound forms that you hear within your environment around you. With practice you will notice exactly where inside your system the sound of a bird feels and the way this feels. Likewise with the sound of wind blowing through the trees.
Merely place your focus inside and notice exactly where inside your system you’re feeling this and how it feels. Similarly with the sound forms of flowing streams, the sound of an animal, the falling of the twig or even the rustle of long grass in the wind. Put your focus inside to exactly where and the way this feels. You don’t need to describe it but to just be with the feeling inside your body of how this external object is inside. Being with your sensation. Of being with the feeling of that which you can hear.
As you walk within nature on your rite of passage, also become conscious of the smells around you and the way these feel within you. How the scent of grime feels different of the smell of a crushed leaf. How the scent of bark on the tree feels different to the scent of the rotting log on your earth. How the scent of grass in a clearing feels unique to the scent of the trickling stream.
Similarly with your different tastes. How the taste of the leaf feels unique to the taste of a particular kind of bark. Exactly where in your system you feel this taste and being conscious of how this feels inside your system. Becoming aware of how different tastes really feel inside your system.
While you wander you can also place your focus on the tactile feeling of different wilderness elements and at the same time become aware of all the inner sensations of exactly where and how this feels inside your system. While you put your cheek slowly against the trunk of the tree, exactly where on the inside of one’s system do you feel this? Put your focus and awareness on this place within your system, notice the way it feels and breathe into it to expand the feeling. An internal feeling world once being in sync with your outer dimension external of one’s sense of self.

After experiencing this heightening of your spiritual sense of audio, you will probably start to notice you really are a great deal much more aware in the sounds bordering you. When I had finished my meditation and was in my automobile driving towards the spot within the forest park I’d think about the intention I had set for my heart stroll. Frequently I would pull over when I had gotten an understanding about the intention and jot this insight down.
Then when I’d get to the carpark I would spend a while tapping into the location. I would spend a while grounding myself by placing my feet on the earth and sending roots down. I would spend some time tapping into the stream, rocks, trees, birds and say hello to all of them. Then I would spend a while feeling into the land past what I could physically see.
Following this I’d usually then place my hands straight on to the earth and again place energy into my intention for the heart stroll. After connecting in I would then really feel into the correct time for me to begin heading off on my heart stroll. This was mainly via asking the land as to when the correct time was to enter and then going by going with the feeling of when to enter the bushland.
Once you have gone and sat at your spot in nature and connected with it, the following stage in the heart walk is to tap ion even more deeply with the land. The rationale for this is that the answers around your intention will probably be found in the insights you receive in the land. The nearer your connection when tapping into the land, the deeper you’ll really feel to the insights the land is telling you.
Before connecting deeper to the land, I again put power into my intention. This assists me to once more become clear regarding why I’m performing the heart walk around an intention that’s important to me. To put energy into my intention I will look again at the bullet list in my heart stroll notepad again. Spreading the energy of your meditation intention along the land not just modifies the physical elements within the wilderness to line up and give you the insights but will also change your perception. You will find you become more open and perceptive of the insights nature is attempting to tell you.
After putting energy in to the intention I will then spend a few moments to change my way of thinking. I’ll begin to look around me and have a few moments to be aware of what I’m grateful for and why. For instance, I may notice a bird singing in the distance and I will mentally enter into a state of gratitude for that bird’s song and why I am grateful for it. For example, that may be simply because I get to feel and listen to the birds inner beauty coming out into the environment around me.

As I am imagining being in this spiritual place I also imagine what the place smells like and also how it feels being there. Taking the time to visit the location inside your mind’s eye prior to you going there will deepen your link with the surrounding land.
After I’ve spent time tuning in with the land, I then use my inner voice to inquire the land if it’s ok for me to go there on the heart walk. This internal voice is similar to the internal voice you hear when you’re looking at the phrases on this web page right now. For example as you are reading these words I’m creating just for you, start to pay attention that there is a subtle internal voice going on within you. Like there’s a little voice going on within you while you are looking at these words. To me it’s comparable to a gentle whisper as I’m reading the words. This really is similar to your inner voice.
You can then use this inner voice to inquire of the land if it’s okay for you personally to go and spend some time with it. It’s an internal conversation which you have directly with the land before you go to the location you’re feeling drawn to. Utilizing this internal voice, I usually let the land understand what it is I’m eager to do in addition to why I am eager to go there. Then it’s a matter of just listening to the voice back from the land.

I also discover that occasionally it requires some time for the land to open. This is probably because it’s been some time since the land has had this inner conversation with another human being.

Another typical question I get from individuals who want a sense of relaxation is ‘What do you take on the heart stroll?’
There is not a lot you need to take on your heart stroll. For instance, all I generally bring is a small notice pad that fits into my back again pocket along with a pen. Inside this note pad I have my intention jotted down. Then as insights from nature come through from nature I will generally make some notes and sometimes draw a sketch of what I see. I usually discover this helps me later throughout the integration phase of my heart stroll after i am reflecting on all of the messages I’ve obtained from the wilderness.
Some people also bring a bottle of drinking water and a few snacks with them when they go on the heart stroll. However I find the less distractions I bring the better. Similarly with shoes and clothes. Generally I’ll go barefoot while on a heart walk as I’m in a position to really feel more of the land via the soles of my feet. And the less clothes I bring, the less I have to worry about taking good care of. The heart walk is more about melting into and becoming 1 with the land rather than insulating ourselves from it.
As I travel towards the land I really feel drawn to, I usually have my little journal pad along with a pen beside me. Throughout this time I usually drive in silence with no radio on. This gives me time and space to dwell further on my intention and to put more energy into it. I find the more power I put in to the intention, the clearer the messages I obtain from the wilderness.
I also find that as I put time and power in to the intention that preliminary insights will come to me. After i get an insight I pull over and will either write the perception down or draw a little sketch if it is a picture which has come to me. On a variety of occasions, the messages the wilderness was wanting to give me have arrived to me while driving towards the spot I felt drawn. On these occasions I thanked the land with my internal voice and turned back again with out even stepping 1 foot to touch the land.
Your heart walk begins the moment you start placing energy into your intention. It is not just about heading for a walk through the wilderness. It is more about becoming open for the messages the wilderness is attempting to give you. The energy that you place into your intention is reflected back again to you. The more energy you place in, the more powerful is reflected back again in the sort of insights, symbols and messages through nature.
When i get to the area of land I feel drawn to I then invest a bit of time entering into ‘the zone’ and becoming one with the land. I’ll cover ways to get into ‘the zone’ later within this post but it is essentially about getting away from your thoughts, into your senses, tapping in to the pull of your heart and deciphering the constant messages that nature is giving us. Getting into ‘the zone’ is tapping in to the religious dimension past the one we usually see.

This state of no tension and inner peace inside both your body and mind allows for a deeper link with the land.
To connect even further to the land around me I will spend a little of time doing the tree meditation. To complete the tree meditation I will shut my eyes and place my attention and awareness on the bottom of my feet. For example, if I am standing on sand next to the seaside I’ll really feel what the sand is like next to the pores and skin on the soles of my feet. I’ll feel the delicate textures and how the tiny grains of sand are touching next to my skin. Or when the sand is wet how the wetness of the sand feels next to the skin at the bottom of my feet.
Or maybe if I am standing on dry sticks and leaves, I’ll really feel what it’s like to have a few of the sharp twigs push next to and dig in to the skin around the soles of my feet. Sensing the subtle nuances in the textures next to the soles of my feet. How my forefeet feels compared to where my heel touches the ground. Compared to the arches of my feet. Feeling the contact of my feet against the earth.
Once you are aware of this pressure and also have invested a couple of moments sensing and connecting with your sensations next to the soles of your feet, you can then imagine what it is like to shoot roots down through your feet. A lot like how a tree experiences the earth. Imagine what it’s like to send roots down through the topsoil, through the underlying clay layers, around the rocks within the earth below your feet until you reach the underlying bed rock below exactly where you are standing.
Really feel how it is to be linked to the earth below. Roots sent deeply into the earth. Really feel the solidness of this. The groundedness of being rooted within the earth. Much as you imagine a tree feels.
When you have explored this experience of becoming grounded by sending roots down underneath the soil layers, then place your attention onto the body. You’ll likely discover there’s a slight sway happening with your physique. Much like the way a tree will sway gently within the wind. Just be with this mild swaying and allow your body to sway and gently move the way in which it moves. Getting in synch with the groundedness of the root connection of the earth, and becoming the swaying link up in the sky. Connecting to the earth below and connecting with the sky above. The strong rootedness and also the swaying sky link.
When in this state of inner peace you’ll discover there’s a middle point. A location in your experience that is at the middle of being grounded to the earth beneath and connected to the sky above. For most individuals this really is around their heart center. Symbolically this level represents walking around the earthly surface. Walking with your heart alongside the earth whilst being grounded to the earth beneath and connected with the spirit of the sky overhead. Being in this middle place while connected both overhead and beneath is a good spot to be on your heart walk.

And what I have since found is that this peak spiritual experience of becoming connected and at one with every thing is always there. Even if I feel a perception of anxiety and tension, I understand that underlying these feelings the perception of oneness and connection with all objects within nature is usually there. Just waiting around to tap into again.
For I have been on a 15 yr quest to know what occurred that day and for the weeks afterward. I’ve been to dozens of spiritual workshops, studied countless publications and invested numerous hours in nature meditating, tapping in and recreating the feeling of oneness. From what I’ve found, given the proper conditions and training many people are able to tap into this state inside a couple of hours. It is possible to consciously get out of your mind, into your senses and tap in to the dimension beyond the 1 we normally see.
This fifteen yr quest has resulted in what I these days call The Heart Walk. Personally I’ve found around 95% of the time it is a resounding ‘yes’ to go on the heart walk to where I really feel drawn. I find in most cases it feels like the land is lacking the ceremonies indigenous people once did with it. That it’s lacking the religious connection we used to feel with the land.
Nevertheless sometimes I do get a ‘no’ back from the land. In these cases I usually invest a couple of moments acknowledging the land and thanking it for it’s response and allowing me realize it is not ok at this point in time and respecting it’s choice. Respecting the ‘no’ is vital since the solutions towards the intention you set won’t be discovered in that part within the land.
If you do obtain a ‘no’ from the land, once more spend a while tapping in and see where it is you’re feeling drawn. This will be the immediate place that intuitively comes for you.
